State Parks Saratoga to Host a Geocache Challenge

 

SARATOGA SPRINGS - The Saratoga/Capital District Region of New York State Parks is hosting a geocache challenge.

Geocaching is an outdoor sporting activity in which the participants use a GPS or alternative mobile device and basic navigational techniques to find hidden outdoor containers, called geocaches.

The challenge begins on Memorial Day Weekend and extends through Veteran’s Day, November 11th.

Geocache passports can be picked up at the office of any participating park or site, or downloaded from the agency’s webpage here.

CLIFTON PARK - Karigon Elementary School will hold its 10th Anniversary Earth/Arbor Day Celebration on Friday, May 17.

The celebration will be held at 1:15 p.m. on Karigon’s grassy field/playground.

Spa State Park holds native plant sale

Spa State Park holds native plant sale

 

SARATOGA SPRINGS – Saratoga Spa State Park will hold a native plant sale on Sunday, May 5.

In addition to offering native plants, the park will also offer lectures, and various kids activities.

The event, held on from 10a.m. to 2p.m. is free, and no registration is required.

FrogWatch to be held at Saratoga Spa State Park

FrogWatch to be held at Saratoga Spa State Park

 

SARATOGA SPRINGS – There will be an evening frog program on Thursday, April 25.

The FrogWatch will study different frog calls, and include a search of the wetlands for the amphibians.

The watch is $3 per person, $5 per family, and those in attendance are encouraged to bring a flashlight.

Town to hold Paper Shredding Day on Sunday, May 5

 

CLIFTON PARK – The town of Clifton Park, in partnership with Clifton Park Center and 3N Document Destruction, will host another Town Paper Shredding Day on Sunday, May 5 from 1 to 3 p.m. in the Clifton Park Center parking lot near JCPenney.

Registration is not required and there is no cost for shredding, although residents are encouraged to bring one canned good for donation to a local food pantry for each bag or box of papers.

SARATOGA SPRINGS – The Annual Fish Stocking will be held on Wednesday, April 3 at the Saratoga Spa State Park at 11 a.m. Following is more information:

Dust off your buckets and join us at Geyser Creek Picnic Area for the Annual Fish Stocking!  Families are invited to help the NYSDEC Van Hornesville Fish Hatchery as they stock Geyser Creek with approximately 800 brown trout. 

In addition to the fish, there will be live music, fly fishing demonstrations, crafts, displays and outdoor games to play. 

This event is free and food will be available for a donation. 

The annual event is known to draw hundreds, so those who plan to attend are advised to arrive before 11 a.m. as to avoid lines. Those who plan on attending must bring their own buckets.

Local businesses come together for 4th Annual ‘Go-Green’ Build

 

BALLSTON SPA – For the 4th year in a row, local businesses will come together for a ‘Go-Green’ Build on Saturday, April 20.

This year’s build will produce a new sustainable water feature and gardens at the site of the Saratoga County Historical Society.

The build will be held from 8 a.m. -5 p.m. at the Brookside Museum in Ballston Spa.
