A nationally-renowned President Theodore Roosevelt impersonator will visit the Saratoga & North Creek Railway on Saturday, May 19 at 2 p.m.

Impersonator Joe Wiegand will visit the railway and perform an event that will be free and open to the public. Wiegand will portray President Roosevelt on the platform of the railway’s North Creek depot. The railway is the same station where the president boarded a train to becoming the 26th president of the United States following the assassination of President McKinley in 1901.

“Saratoga & North Creek Railway is thrilled to host Joe Wiegand’s outstanding reprisal of such a historic and beloved figure in our nation’s history,” said Saratoga & North Creek Railway General Manager Steve Torrico in a statement. “Wiegand’s depth of knowledge about the personal anecdotes in Roosevelt's life will certainly make the audience feel as though they are truly in the presence of Teddy himself.”

The party's over for Saratoga's Whitney Gala

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. (AP) - The party's over for the Whitney Gala, a mainstay on the Saratoga racing season's black-tie circuit for decades.

John Hendrickson, husband of socialite Marylou Whitney, tells local media outlets that the couple has decided to end to the annual Whitney Gala, held every summer the night before the Whitney Stakes at Saratoga Race Course.

The event was called off last year for just the third time since Whitney started hosting the lavish affairs in the 1960s with her then-husband, Cornelius Vanderbilt Whitney. Hendrickson said last summer that he and his wife wanted to focus their fundraising efforts on the racetrack's backstretch workers. He gave the same reason this week.

Hendrickson says his 86-year-old wife is in excellent health after suffering a stroke in 2006.
