Saratoga Co. Fair Lego holds contest

SARATOGA COUNTY – The Saratoga County Fair will hold a unique new contest this year. Following is more information:

The 172nd Saratoga County Fair invites anyone eighteen and under to enter the new Lego Contest at the fair on Wednesday, July 17, 2013. The fair runs from July 16-21, 2013.

The theme is “The County Fair.” Use Legos to build animals, buildings, farming equipment, rides, create whatever your imagination dreams up that has to do with a county fair.

Lego creations should be brought to the Saratoga County Fair Family Center between 10 am – 12 noon on Wednesday, July 17th. Lego displays will be judged at 3:30 pm by the Saratoga County Fair Education Committee.  You may take your Legos home at 4 pm.

National Museum of Racing and Hall of Fame hosts fan education program

Renowned thoroughbred racing handicapper Tom Amella is hosting a fan education program at the National Museum of Racing and Hall of Fame July 13 at 1 p.m.

The program is free and open to everyone.

It will focus on the upcoming Saratoga Race Course meet.

The program is to help racing fans become comfortable at handicapping and familiar with fundamental racetrack terminology.

The program is expected to last 90 minutes.

There will be handouts and drawings for prizes from the museum gift shop.

Ballet icon comes to SPAC

Edward Villella will be coming to SPAC July 13 for the Ballet Gala: The Ruby Ball.

He is said to be one of the most celebrated American dancers in history and will be a guest.

The gala is a fundraiser to support New York City Ballet’s Saratoga season and will feature a performance of Balanchine’s Rubies.

Dogs and Divas Fashion Show to be held June 13

SARATOGA SPRINGS - The American Cancer Society’s annual fundraiser Dogs & Divas will be held on June 13.

 The fashion show aims to raise awareness about the American Cancer Society’s life-saving programs.

The dogs will be joined by over 20 guest Diva models and over 150 Diva attendees, and 27 boutique vendors selling gifts. 

The show will be held at the Saratoga National Golf Club from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

Diva Tickets are $80, or $100 for a Dog & Diva Ticket.

The Band Perry is live & loud

The Band Perry will be in concert with Rascal Flatts on the Live & Loud Tour June 16 at 6 p.m. in Saratoga Springs at SPAC.

Tickets are available via Ticketmaster.

All American Celebration announces new event

SARATOGA SPRINGS - Saratoga’s All-American Celebration Inc. has announced a new event for this year’s 6th Annual Saratoga’s All-American Celebration.

The event, “Mom & Pop BBQ Competition,” will be held Thursday, July 4 from 4-7p.m, at the Saratoga Downtowner parking lot.

Four teams will be chosen from the nominations to compete and paired with one of our local personalities to create the final team.

“After six years, we are thrilled to bring a fresh, new component to our Celebration,” said Kate Jarosh, President, Board of Directors.

National Museum of Racing announces 2013 Hall of Fame inductees

SARATOGA SPRINGS – The National Museum of Racing has announced the 2013 inaugural Pillars of the Turf Hall of Fame inductees. Following is more information:

Esteemed sportsmen August Belmont II and Paul Mellon have been selected as the inaugural Pillars of the Turf inductees into the National Museum of Racing and Hall of Fame.

Belmont II and Mellon will be inducted into the Hall of Fame along with jockey Calvin Borel and the Thoroughbreds Housebuster, Invasor, Lure, McDynamo, and Tuscalee on Friday, Aug. 9.

The ceremony will be held at the Fasig-Tipton sales pavilion at 10:30 a.m. It is open to the public and free of charge.
