LAKE LUZERNE - The pain is still fresh for Tina Curl.
Not a moment passes where she doesn't think about her daughter, Becky.
"He'll pay for ever laying a hand on her," she said.
The child was just 9 years old when she was abducted, raped and murdered by Donald Moeller . The ex-con, snatched her up off the streets of Sioux Falls, South Dakota. It was May 1990 and Becky and her family had just moved there from Lake Luzerne two months earlier.
Moeller raped and stabbed her multiple times and left her lifeless body in a field.
After the murder, the family moved back to this area, but they returned to South Dakota for the trial in 1992 and the re-trial in 1997. Both times Moeller was convicted and sentenced to death.
"He took the only thing I ever had that was all mine. Something I thought no one could ever took away and he did," said Moeller. "And for that, I want to see him pay."
After 15 years of appeals, costing South Dakota taxpayers an estimated $1.5 million, Moeller will finally be put to death by lethal injection. It will happen sometime during the week of October 28 and Becky's parents plan to be there to watch.
"He watched my daughter die. I want to watch him die," Curl said.
Tina and her husband, Dave, will drive the 1,200 miles to South Dakota.
Friends are raising money to help defray the costs. They're calling the effort Justice for Becky. The fundraiser is at Randy's Roost in Queensbury on Saturday, Aug. 18 from 2 to 6 p.m.
