Two canoes launched for Travers winners | News

SARATOGA SPRINGS - Two winners. Two canoes.

Traditionally, NYRA paints a canoe in the colors of the winning horse and floats it on the infield pond at the race course.

However, Alpha and Golden Ticket finished in a dead heat in Saturday’s Travers.

Two canoes were launched Wednesday morning -- one was royal blue and white for Alpha, the other green, blue and orange for Golden Ticket.

This is the first dead-heat in the Travers since 1874.
