Party host charged after alleged underage drinking, damage

STILLWATER - In a series of videos posted by a party-goer on Twitter, a large crowd is seen gathered around a raging fire pit.

In one video clip, taken by 20-year-old Jared Bouchey, there is an alarming sight, as a young man jumps over the bonfire and rolls, his head striking what appears to be hot coals.

68-year-old victim testifies about alleged assault at hands of 19-year-old

BALLSTON SPA - She remembers being pinned down and having her clothes ripped off.

A 68-year-old woman testified for more than two hours Friday about the May 22, 2012 attack she endured outside the restaurant her husband was cleaning.

The testimony came during the fourth day of the trial of Antonio Lopez Bautista, a 19-year-old illegal immigrant accused of assault, attempted rape and attempted kidnapping.

Testimony in the trial will resume Tuesday morning.

Saratoga 150 Family Night postponed

SARATOGA SPRINGS - The Saratoga 150's first big event has been postponed due to the weather.

It's now going to kick off on Saturday June 1 at the Saratoga Performing Arts Center.

Gates will open at 5:30 that night.

Sheriff: Clifton Park man kills self as deputies arrive

CLIFTON PARK, N.Y. (AP) - The Saratoga County Sheriff's Department says a 41-year-old man killed himself when deputies arrived at his house to arrest him on burglary charges.
    
Matthew Johnson of Clifton Park was found dead when deputies entered his home Wednesday evening.
    
When they arrived at the house, deputies say they saw Johnson look out a window and then disappear from view. They called for backup and went inside with a search dog, and found Johnson dead in the attic.

Mechanicville residents remember 1998 tornado

MECHANICVILLE - Though tornadoes are not as common in the Capital Region as they are in the Midwest, they do happen.

One of the most destructive to ever this area was the Mechanicville tornado in 1998.

It struck on May 31 Memorial Day weekend.

The F3 twister with winds topping 206 miles per hour devastated the town.

It also damaged or destroyed more than 200 homes.

NewsChannel 13’s John McLoughlin spoke to people who lost their houses in that storm.

Unemployment rate drops in Capital Region

CAPITAL REGION - The jobless rate in the Capital Region is dropping.

New statistics out Tuesday from the state show the unemployment level in the Albany Schenectady Troy area has dropped from 7.2 in April of 2012 to 6.5 last month.

Glens Falls dropped from 8.3 to 7.8.

The State's jobless rate is also 7.8 percent.

New York strikes deal with Mohawks

 

LAKE GEORGE - Lake George is out of the casino race, thanks to a deal struck today between the state of New York and the St. Regis Mohawk Nation.

That deal announced this afternoon gives the Mohawks exclusive rights in 8 northern counties, including Hamilton and Warren Counties.

It also resolves a three year dispute over gaming issues.

Governor Cuomo wants three casinos built upstate.

So far, he has not specified any desired sites.
