Registering to be an organ donor can now be done online

The Department of Motor Vehicles and the Department of Health announced Tuesday that it is now possible to join the Organ Donor Registry online.

April is National Organ Donor Awareness Month and for the first time, New Yorkers will be able to enroll for the registry online using the DMV’s “MyDMV” application. People who register through the MyDMV will not need to print, sign or mail their registration application to DOH.

According to a statement, nearly 10,000 are currently waiting for an organ transplant in New York State and every 13 hours someone dies waiting for one.

Wesley Community resident celebrates 109th birthday

Wesley Community resident celebrates 109th birthday

The Wesley Community in Saratoga Springs helped resident Jennie Pattist celebrate her 109th birthday Friday. The community also celebrated Philomena Oliver’s birthday who turned 100 last weekend. Hannaford helped with the festivities by supplying 109 cupcakes.

Pattist was born on a dairy farm in South Corinth and was married to her husband John for 67 years. They had two children before John passed away in 1990.

Pattist was a master gardener who loved to spend hours tending the vegetable gardens, orchards and flower beds on the family farm. The family grew much of their own food, which Pattist’s grandson attributes to her longevity.

The Wesley Community is a 36-acre non for profit agency in Saratoga Springs which serves the needs of the elderly, active seniors, adults and pediatrics. It is sponsored by United Methodist Health and Housing Inc.
