Pothole patch-up to cause traffic delays on I-87

Pothole patch-up to cause traffic delays on I-87

Motorists are being advised that a single right-lane closure will be in effect Tuesday, June 7, and Wednesday, June 8, on Interstate 87 northbound between the Twin Bridges and Exit 12 in Saratoga County.

The lanes closure will be in place from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. so NYSDOT maintenance crews can patch potholes. The work may cause some traffic delays throughout the day. The work is weather dependent.

Motorists are reminded that fines are doubled for speeding in a work zone.

'Great Race' to roll through Saratoga Springs

'Great Race' to roll through Saratoga Springs

The Great Race, America’s premiere old car rally, is coming to Saratoga Springs Thursday, June 16, and is expected to bring up to 100 antique automobiles to the city.

The overnight stop will be marked by a public event at the Saratoga Automobile Museum to mark their arrival in the Spa city.

The 2011 event, sponsored by Hemmings Motor News and Coker Tire, starts in Chattanooga, TN and finishes in Bennington, VT. Run from coast to coast from 1983-2007, it is not a speed race, but a time/speed/distance rally. The driver and navigator are given precise instructions each day that detail every move down to the second, then scored at secret check points along the way and penalized one second for each second either early or late. As in golf, the lowest score wins.

Cars start, and hopefully finish, one minute apart if all goes according to plan. The biggest part of the challenge, other than staying on time and following the instructions, is getting an old car to the finish line each day.

Troopers plan holiday weekend seat-belt crackdown

ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) - New York State Police are in the midst of their annual "Click it or Ticket" seat-belt law enforcement campaign.

The Troop T initiative will continue through the holiday weekend on the state Thruway. Hundreds of other law enforcement agencies are participating in the program throughout the state.

State law requires all front-seat occupants to be properly secured, regardless of age. All rear-seat passengers under 16 must also be belted.

Drivers and front-seat passengers 16 or older can be fined up to $50 for not using their seat belts. Drivers who fail to have children properly secured can be fined $100 and receive three points on their license.

Troop T issued 4,072 seat-belt tickets on the Thruway during the campaign last year and 17,747 during the year.
